Anyone else feel particularly nervous about approaching their boss with ideas or is it just me? Personally, I have a lot of reservations about making suggestions of changes that need to be made around the office. I’m not sure if that’s a normal feeling, or if it is happening as a result of my crippling anxiety. The change I want to suggest is getting some film placed over the windows at work. I have no idea how much it costs to layer big windows with film, but it needs to be done. Everyday without fail, the clock hits 3pm and we all start squinting trying to see our computer screens. The sun at this time of day is so horrible! It’s actually blinding. I’ve spoken with multiple people in the office and it seems that many share the same complaints as I.
I don’t know what I was so worried about. During a team meeting I addressed the struggles with the window glare, and the majority of my co-workers chimed in and were on my side. My boss heard our feedback and told us that he would look up recommended office tinting solutions near Melbourne city’s main office. The business that I work at is sprawled across multiple offices in Melbourne, Sydney, and Queensland. Each office runs quite independently as far as operations, but we are collaborative in terms of work. Unfortunately, for big expenses my boss needs to approach his boss. His boss works in Sydney. The difficulty with big bosses is that they take so long at times to reply or action anything that doesn’t directly affect bringing more revenue into the business.
My boss has asked if I could help find some frosted window tinting options for commercial buildings. I’ve found a few options that are reasonably priced and have promised to be able to get the job done within the next week or so. I’m being sure to take action on this sooner rather than later as I’ve seen how quick things like this can fall off people’s desks and to-do lists.
